So, the whole twenty five random things about yourself is going around Facebook and I thought it wasn’t such a bad oppertunity to be introspective and have a small marker where I was at this time and life. For the most part this blog serves as a place for me to document things I’m thinking about or currently find interesting and occasionally as way to share information with others, so I felt that this was a better spot to store this information than Facebook. So here it goes:

I do not believe the human brain is capable of truly random thought.

I will stop procrastinating tomorrow.

I find that semantics come into play far more often than I would like.

I used to be a fundamentalist baptist.

I have struggled with suicide.

I have trouble dealing failure.

I feel that most religion does more harm than good and the the good that is done could be done without it.

I believe there is a lot to learn from Buddhism.

At this point in life I am an atheist.

I spend some nights laying awake wondering what I’m doing my life.

I think life would be easier if I were religious again, but I can’t lie to myself.

I believe it is human to be selfish, but that we can rise above it.

I am most likely a left libertarian.

I believe moderation is key to living a happy life.

I am always amazed how little I can do and still feel busy.

I would like to live somewhere else, but don’t know where, or how we’d go about transplanting.

I wish I would have the desire to pursue a career, but I have not found something that feels worth that effort.

I find I would rather have tea than coffee anymore.

I really enjoy making chili and the fact that I never make it the same twice.

I do not understand what my wife sees in me.

I prefer snowboarding to skiing, even though skiing was easier for me to learn.

I have an easier time getting through fiction than non-fiction. I often wish this was not the case.

I wonder what my son thinks of me and how he will think of me when he is an adult.

I am better at coming up with ideas than following through with them.

I try to live in a manner that affords me the ability to be an open book.

A story that seems to be easily forgotten in U.S.A. history, it should not be. Persecution can come in all shapes and sizes and over something as simple a man wearing a beard.

My goatee has often drawn interest from people and most of which is positive or inquisitive. I do get the comments that I should cut it off, more often by people I have known for a while and I do not really mind. They are free to have their opinion and in this case I am going to ignore it or insist that they are just jealous. But I’ve heard others make comments about people with tattoos, piercings, different ethnicities , so on and so forth. I may have some mental deficiencies (those who know me would say I should drop the may), but I don’t understand why some people are so bothered by other people not being like them.

Be wary of your own prejudices, they do not serve you well.

Please read about Joseph Palmer here:

I was reading this commentary written by Penn Jillette for CNN (via) and was surprised how several people took this comment of his:

So remember, the only way to waste your vote is to vote!

Why are people seeing this as him saying not to vote? When it’s actually the opposite? Just before this comment he points out that he has other candidates he’d rather see in office than Obama or McCain, but knows they don’t have a shot. So, in this comment is a statement that you can vote for what you support, even if you don’t have a shot and are “wasting” your vote, but to do this you have to go out and vote.

On the other side of things I’m tired of people saying that choosing not to vote is unpatriotic. The fact is exercising the choice to vote or not is a freedom we have. If there is no one that I feel I want to support on a ballot, I shouldn’t feel inclined to vote or even choose between which one I despise less and vote for them. Why can’t I withhold my vote in a statement that none of the candidates deserve it? Isn’t this an just as much a statement of my freedom? I want to believe in and support those whom I vote for, I don’t want to be reduced to choosing between the lesser of two evils.

Starbucks Dress Code Policy

I like to occasionally check the stats for my blog and see what I’m getting the most hits from. And usually there’s few hits from searches, but the majority of traffic comes from friends checking out my most recent post. That was until I did a post about Starbucks reviewing their dress code. Now my blog doesn’t have a day without some traffic. Well, since so many people seem to be looking to be informed about Starbucks’ dress code I figured I’d help them out. Above is a link to file with the dress code policy, enjoy.
