Learning Fiscal Responsibility with Barbie
Ok, so the TV was on some cartoon when I happen to catch a commercial for the Barbie Fashion Fever Shopping Boutique Playset. Normally I wouldn’t notice something like this, but what caught my attention was that this playset includes a “Fashion Fever credit card” which allow the child/Barbie to buy the outfit. “But don’t fret. Once the balance hits zero, it will reset so you can continue to shop.” Wait… what was that? That’s right you use the card until you have no money left on it and it rewards you by giving you more. What kind of lesson is this trying to send to kids? As if there’s not enough trouble with Americans accumulating debt, lets get the kids into bad habits earlier.
