Irresponsibility

I find I have little sympathy for those who are irresponsible.

I recently was told about a debit/credit card processing glitch at a local university. It seems that all the dinning hall transactions from May till recently were not processed, causing all the transactions to hit many student’s accounts all at once. This created some outcry as many ended up with overdraft charges.

My question is “why should we have sympathy on these people?” They realized by swiping the card that they were going to have to pay for it, why wasn’t the money in their account? Don’t they monitor their transactions? I can’t believe that it took this long for the company to realize they hadn’t been paid or that there weren’t students contacting them asking why their transactions hadn’t cleared. I mean come on have some common sense people, don’t blame the company for collecting what’s their’s, blame yourself for not making them aware of this error sooner.

It’s no surprise that so many people are in debt for poor reasons if our university/college students can’t balance a check book.
