Coffee for taste or buzz?

Posted in Everything, Random Thoughts by Matt on September 19th, 2004

I guess I will never understand why someone would suffer through drinking coffee for the caffeine buzz. This has a lot to do with the fact that I actually enjoy drinking coffee and that I don't get a rush from caffeine. Yes, as sad as it is it is true that I get no kick from caffeine. I can drink a large cup of coffee and go straight to bed, in fact I think it helps me fall asleep. So, to you that suffer through the coffee for the caffeine I am some sort of sick twisted individual, yes I drink coffee and even espresso because I enjoy the taste. This wasn't always the case. In fact I can remember the days I looked at my dad puzzled why he would drink coffee, for I hated the taste and figured I could get a rush from Mountain Dew. It was my first year in college when some of my dorm mates and I went out and stopped at a coffee shop. I was told that for a newbie like me that a mocha would be a good choice, that it would be more like hot chocolate. I thoroughly enjoyed that mocha and rethought my stance on coffee. The next evening I went to the local coffee shop and decided to just get a coffee. I thought it best that I first try it no cream or sugar, because I could always add those if I didn't like it. But surprise surprise I liked it black. We'll that Christmas I asked for and received a small espresso maker. I decided one night to fire it up and make four shots for me and the other guys that were in that night. Well, nobody wanted any, so I decided not to let it go to waste. I had quite an experience from that dose of caffeine. Started of talking a mile a minute not able to sit still, proceeded into stuttering, and then the shakes. From there it went to feeling like a lead weight was attached to the top of my head. It was soon after that this lead weight plummeted to my stomach, but I was fine after that. Never since then have I gotten a buzz from caffeine. But I still love my coffee.

Change for the better.

I was pouring some cream into my coffee cup this afternoon and was wondering why in the world they had changed the design of the container. The new container doesn't really provide any benefit to me the consumer in fact I'd say all that has more problems. Maybe it's not so much the container as it is the lid through which the creamer is poured that is the problem. Maybe I don't go through it quick enough or something, but I find that the lid becomes gunked up with creamer residue. At which point I have to remove the lid and rinse it with hot water. Usually with the lid off I go ahead and finish pouring whatever more I need with no problem. Now their previous design was the milk carton with the plastic screw on top. I actually liked that design better. I know that the last few drops where impossible to get out with out tearing open the carton, but that wasn't so bad. I mean it beats having that same amount of creamer gunked up in the lid your pouring from. And if you did tear it open, it sort of brought back the feeling of school lunch milks. Which for me is a good thing because I used to always get chocolate milk… mmmm…chocolate milk. In fact thinking about it why did they put plastic screw on lids on a perfectly good container, oh wait to keep it fresh for people like me who make it last forever.

I guess I stopped thinking…

Well didn't take long to get to the point I feared when starting this. That of course being the point where I no longer know what to write about. I'm fairly sure that I have plenty to say I guess I just haven't been sparked to say it. Or maybe my life has become interesting enough to keep me so occupied that I don't have the time to write in this blog any more. Ok, ok, stop laughing. Ya, I know it's more likely that my life has become so dull that writing about it would only make it more dull. Well I guess that's all until I get new batteries for my brain.

Sleep

If you spend 1/3 of your life sleeping, why am I so tired?

Free Music

I've decided I should start sorting through all the indie artists that have some of their music out on the web for download. Then when I find that artist I connect with, buy their cd from them. That's right, I'm one more person who is tired of all the big industry. I'm tired of the rich becoming richer and poor becoming poorer.
I'm looking at the internet as a free admission concert hall. You get to here different artist and at the end of the show you buy cds from those you liked. While your at it start listing to public supported radio, and when you find a station you like support it. I had the pleasure of donating to WNKU, hopefully I can continue to support them and start supporting WGUC. If I can make a suggestion to fellow coffee drinkers, don't buy Starbucks. Instead try to find a locally owned shop to get you're fix at. Well… I'm going for now, don't worry I have plenty more to complain about.
